Who is Bidamount?
Peter & Francesca Combs
Both Francesca Hillyer Combs and Peter L. Combs of Bidamount were born and raised on the waters of the North Shore of Boston, Massachusetts. In fact, even though they never met as children, both Peter and Francesca spent a great deal of their childhood mucking about in boats within easy hailing distance of each other.
Today, Peter and his family live a short sail up the coast from their childhood homes on a quiet, short street that dead ends on the ocean in the spectacularly unique coastal city of Gloucester, Massachusetts on Cape Ann ("the other cape"). Our kids still ride their bikes to the beach, to buy candy at the local store, to their favorite fishing spots, or to swim in the quarries around our small neighborhood where half the doors remain unlocked.
After nearly 18 years as an appraiser, auctioneer, and partner at Landry Auctions in nearby Essex, Peter decided to open his own business and gallery in downtown Gloucester. Prior to joining Landry's, Peter was an antiques dealer and had found many great items in the thousands of antique and secondhand stores scattered along the Eastern seacoast and the Gloucester area. His skills and experienced eyes have helped Peter become a successful eBay dealer and buyer who knows how to use the site to hunt for the right items at the right prices.
Always resourceful, Peter realized that people from around the world are often looking for things on eBay but might not know how to create good searches due to language barriers or simple confusion about how eBay organizes its categories. So he turned to his wife, Francesca, who grew up speaking Italian as her second language and then went on to learn Chinese and French over the course of 15 years in Asia and Europe with an idea to create a website that helps people negotiate their way around eBay. Bidamount is the result of their combined experience and skills.
Our Bidamount site began with a focus on antique, Asian works of art. That´s because we buy and sell in a variety of mediums and categories that include early ceramics, bronzes, bamboo, lacquers, paintings, screens and items from the China Trade era and have become experts in ferreting out those sorts of items on eBay. The more we worked on creating good searches for these items, however, the more we realized that we can find items for all kinds of buyers from around the world by working with certain search criteria.
